Who runs this site

AlliedHealthTests is an independent study-resource publisher. We are not a school, not an exam vendor, and not affiliated with any certifying organization or state agency. The site is part of a small family of free career-prep resources that includes Pharmacy Tech Test, Free CNA Training, and Trade Schools Review, built on one idea: the information you need to start a skilled career should not sit behind a paywall or an email gate.

Everything here — the 115 practice questions, the state requirement guides for all 4 licensing states, and the national certification overview — is free to use, with no signup and no credit card.

How our practice questions are written

Every question is original — we never reproduce content from any real certification exam. Items are written to the territory the national phlebotomy certification exams publish in their content outlines: patient preparation, specimen collection, safety and compliance, and specimen processing, plus a dedicated EKG bank for candidates adding electrocardiography. Before a question is published we check it three ways:

• The fact is verified against a primary reference — the current CLSI order-of-draw convention and tube-additive chemistry for collection questions, OSHA's bloodborne pathogens standard for safety items, and standard electrocardiography references for lead placement and waveform questions.
• Exactly one answer is defensibly correct, and the distractors come from real confusions — adjacent tubes in the draw order, look-alike stopper colors, neighboring intercostal spaces — because that is how the real exams try to trip you up.
• Every question ships with a written explanation that teaches why the right answer is right and why the most tempting wrong option is wrong — not just the letter of the answer.

When a standard changes — a draw-order revision, a renamed credential, a new fee — we correct the affected questions rather than leaving stale content up.

How we source state requirements

Only four states license or certify phlebotomists, and each of our guides is built from that state's primary sources: California's Department of Public Health Laboratory Field Services, the Washington State Department of Health and its administrative code, Nevada's NRS/NAC chapter 652, and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners' rules. The national overview is sourced from the certifying bodies themselves. Every requirements page lists the sources we used, with the date we accessed each one, and carries a review dateline so you can see how current the page is.

Just as important is what we don't do: where an agency does not publish a number, we say so and point you to the agency — we never fill the gap with a guess. California, for example, charges a renewal fee for its phlebotomy certificate but does not publish the amount on its fee-schedule page, so our California guide says exactly that. If anything on this site conflicts with the agency's website, trust the agency and tell us so we can fix it.

Corrections policy

Requirements change, and we would rather hear about an error twice than miss it once. If you spot anything wrong or out of date — a question, a fee, a broken agency link — email info@alliedhealthtests.org or use the contact page, and include the page URL. We review every report, correct confirmed errors, and update the affected page's review date.
